In Reply to: RE: Would Roksan Kandy amp match Dynaudio 70? posted by cychoong@mail.com on November 19, 2007 at 17:53:47
I never heard that amp before but if its musical, clean and has a lot of reserves then it could be a good match.

Tks for the replies guys.... the audience 70 is used, so i doubt i can put them together for a test run. sensitivity is 87, while impedanz is 4. i have read that dynaudio needs quality amplification, and lots of it too, so i wonder if the Kandy is up to the task...
my Kandy is currently partnered with Epos 12.2, and i love the sound except for a lack of bass. Would the Dynaudio be a step up in the right direction?
and I find the Kandy heavy duty on the bass end. But, I use efficient speakers, and a sub. Sub off, no problem.
Your comment that you use efficient speakers is extremely relevant.
I'm driving 85 dB sensitive Dyn Contour 1.3 SEs with a 22.5 dBW (180 w/ch) amp. You're driving a 92 dB sensitive speaker with the Kandy which is roughly a 20.5 dBW amp.
Comparing the combinations, I'm losing roughly 7 dB of sensitivity and gaining 2 dB in power. I needed that extra 3 dB in power with my amp upgrade to really start to get what my Dyns can do in the bass department. My previous amp, roughly the same power as your Kandy or a little less, gave good to very good results but definitely ran a little short in the bottom end with my Dyns.
A lot will depend on music choice, room size and just what kind of current output the Kandy can deliver because Dyns will happily soak it up. I think the Audience 70s won't be quite as demanding as my Contour 1.3 SEs but it's hard to say whether the Kandy would be the best match for the Dyns. I suspect it will give good to very good results, but I think there's a chance it will fall short of great results simply because of the nature of Dyns.

First, I have to admit I am biased....check out my gallery. After listening to many other brands I settled on Dynaudio....I mean after YEARS of searching. Dynaudio was the one speaker that moved me on every front....with every type of music.
Dynaudio is always the [right] direction. These are speakers that you can build a sound system around. Or if you have a good sound system they will let you hear the very best your gear has to offer.
If you want something to tide you over, sure get anything, but if you want to make a step towards ending audio upgrades Dynaudio is one speaker that you can [end] your speaker upgrades with and build around as time/money permits.
Even [if] your amp does not drive the Dane's in the low-end to your satisfaction they will give you everything your amp [can] deliver is spades.
for the Kandy, its Output Power > 120 Watts, into 8Ohms - both channels driven and > 185 Watts, into 4Ohms - both channels driven..
for my previous comment on lack of bass, i meant the epos suffered from a lack of lower bass, not the Kandy...
I got the Audience 70, which matched my Kandy amp very well (to my ears)! Loads of details sprung up, the mid range was much improved, and the bass was slamming! The treble was also smoother than the Epos. In a word WOW!!! Thanks everyone here for their kind input!
I have the Roksan Kandy MkIII with the Audience 62s and think the combo is great... I`m sure you'll enjoy your new kit.
Cheers
Kandy with the A70 is excellent, and i love every minute of it! But out of the blue, my amp kaput (hit the 1-year mark exactly) and i had to send it for repairs..wonder if i had been driving the amp too hard..
