Ok
I'm not here claiming to be a golden eared audiophile. All I have to offer is my opinion.
I spent about 5 hours at the show on Sat and came away impressed with many things but being a realest, I know I can't (wouldn't try)to afford many of these goodies.
What I did and continue to consider is a somewhat small speaker from Sjofn HiFi. WOW I may sell my Vandersteens 3A .
I went back to the room a couple of times to get another earfull.
I sat down a for a while and can't seem to find anything wrong.
The staging was as deep as my vandesteens with comprible detail and bottom but in a box about 1/3 the size . Talk about WAF. I think I may real look into these. The name of the speaker is Guru QM10 and the only reason I know that is because the HE booklet has a paragraph about it .
Am I the onlyone that was blown away by these.
Would love to compare them with the Vandees and the Zu Cable Druids .
While I enjoyed the Druids very much and they where much more pleasing to this enthusiest visual tatse. The size and price of the Guru ($1850) makes it a true condender against much of the compitition in the "reasonably" priced speaker market.
Anyone else have an opinion on/or experience with them?

Follow Ups:
The best room at the show for making you feel at home (that is if you drink beer while listening... ;^)
Kidding aside the speakers sounded great, and had a fullness and musicality that belied their size.
I sat down with Sam Tellig for around a half hour listening to the musicality of these speakers (Sam downed around 3 beers...I had around 4 but who's counting). They were driving them with a $400 integrated from China that had Sam smiling. Sam said he was eager to review the speakers and amp.
Sorry i posted this over in the General Asylum too.Speaking of the Gurus and other monitors. Did anyone have a chance to hear the Mark and Daniels speakers? I wanted to know how these stacked up against the Gurus and other top flight bang for the buck monitors at the show.

I must have sat in the Sjofn room for half an hour trying to get my head around what I was hearing and seeing. It's not just that the Gurus put out far more sound than something the size of a toaster ought to, it's that they put out sound that rivals almost anything else at the show. I listened to "No Sanctuary Here" in the TAD room on the Reference 1s, and it sounded amazing--tight, deep, clean, and with that distinctive beryllium presence. Then I listened to the same song on the Gurus, and heard things in the music I hadn't heard on the TADs. No only that, but the bass was considerably deeper (if not quite as tight) than the TADs.The only things I found that sounded better to my ears were the MBLs--as they should for 750 times the money. That room was astounding. I sat there, too, for a very long time, and I had an experience that I've never encounted listening to a stereo: as each song ended, I found myself compelled to applaud (I caught myself and didn't actually do it, but it took a force of will). Mind you, I wasn't wanting to applaud the stereo system or the people running the demo; I wanted to applaud the performers. The sound was entirely lifelike, but that kind of response can only happen if the music is being communicated, not just the sound. It was remarkable.
Lots of good sound at the show, and some not so good, at least by my lights. I've heard the Ascendo at a couple of shows, and I still can't get excited by them. On the other hand, I finally heard the Wilson speakers sound appealing--probably because it was the first time I've heard them with tubes, and Lamms at that. I still don't like them enough to want them, but at least they didn't sound bad. I suspect a lot of systems were actually better than they sounded, not so much because of show conditions, but because of the music being played through them--slow, low-key jazz with female vocalists singing standards. I love jazz, but after about the 12th room playing that stuff I was ready to scream.
But the real surprise, and the thing that made the whole trip worthwhile were those Gurus. I'm going to buy some.

Not to sound like a sissy but I thought I was going to cry in that MBL room.
It truly sounded LIVE to me and I thought "I'll never achieve this."
Came home and listened and thought "you know this really sounds great, not MBL but natural if not a bit soothing. Now to get thows Gurus for when I want to ROCK my socks off.

I found these speakers' bass boomy and muddled. Perhaps the placement in a corner, near the back wall was the problem. Not my cup of tea.
The company's R&D head is a loudspeaker constructor in Sweden. I've listened to his biggest monitor system which is really something.
Haven't hear the GURUS, but I bet they are capable of stunning sound.

These were my surprise of the show.
Then some other room had a LS3/5 kit $500 that blew me away. He had them siiting on some big speakers and when you walked by the room you would ask which speaker was playing and he would point to them.
I totally agree the Guru QM 10's were amazing. They had terrific bass for such a small speaker and were overall very musical and enjoyable. They even sounded great with my Frank Sintra CD, great singer but hardly a great recording, and Sonny Rollins jazz.Unbelievable value!! Another speaker which greatly impressed me were the Studio Electric Type 3's. These speakers look funny, but sure do sound like live music and although not cheap, $6500. per pair, I felt they outperformed many speakers costing much more.
Joseph Audio,7's, 25's and 33's, Merlin Acoustics VSM sound very good as I would expect from these fine companies, they have yet to disappoint. On the electronics side Omaha Audio had a tube integrated for $1,400. that sounded like it should cost at least twice as much. These are just a few products that stood out off the top of my head.

The wife and I concure, it was one of few rooms we kept looking at each other and nodding in amazement and disbelief at what was coming from the monitor sized plain looking black box....went back later to see if different style of music was playing and it was BIG time... wife says I should sell the current speakers to get these.
