Hey,
I have no arguments about the sound. I read the explanation and it still reads like Ad copy to me. Both the RCA 845 and the WE 284 had metal plates and the "replica" has carbon plates and that alone is enough to make me feel that the WE is added to justify the higher price and give some sort of perceived added value. If you took the WE designation off the tube the audio gods would cry foul at the pricing.
(has anyone traced the curves of these things?)

Fair point and if we are drawing comparisons it must be noted that their rating is less than the tubes they "replicate".
In terms of price and marketing the other scenario is that some, like me have tried many other tubes including their TII series which have no denominator to help their marketing and simply found them to be the best of their ilk and great value for money. In my case this is solely the reason I tried their WE series. I expected them to sound even better and they did.
Also for the record I have a pair of RCAs and whilst a fair comparison is hard to draw because I need a quad, based on the comparison I could make I much prefer the sound of Psvane WE845 so to me they are well worth the money ... IMO and all that.
I have a curve tracer but it will only go to a few hundred volts or so. Still enough to get an idea of linearity. Will take a look one day.

The point about W.E. for marketing gain is a very fair point. However all that matters is the end result, in this case, sound quality.
My good friend has the Absolare Passion Signature PSET amplifier. I've listened to it for "many" hours over a 3 year period using a variety of 845s including NOS RCA. The Psvane W.E. Replica are the best sounding in this splendid amplifier by a fairly large margin ,(with the exception of the Elrog 845). Elrog, Psvane W.E., RCA in that order. this is one superb sounding tube!
