Of those few I have heard, EL84 and 5881/6L6GB. The 6 or 12V6 are also nice in SE, but the power out is substantially lower. These tubes are also good in Class A PP.
Follow Ups:
The 6BQ5 exhibits extremely good dynamics as a SE amp in its native pentode format. You'll be hard pressed to better this tube for the purpose you've described. I dare say it will give the 45 a run for its money if you use top rate iron.

I have a lot of respect for the EL84 as you say TK. That might just do it with a little more power than the 45. Have you tried or heard the ZEN circuit with a 6922 driver?

Sorry, no. I've compared the 6V6 & 6BQ5 in SE triode and pentode modes driven alternately with the 12AX7 and EF86. I preferred pentode mode and the EF86 (also pentode mode) in all cases. I give the 6V6 a slight edge in nuance, and the 6BQ5 the advantage for dynamics (impact). In truth, it's difficult to quantify the differences between these two types, particular as the variations from one manufacturer to the next are probably more significant than anything else.
