In Reply to: RE: How do SE 6V6/12V6 sonics compare with the low powered DHT/IDHT tubes? posted by Frihed89 on January 15, 2016 at 01:47:55
Zero feedback triode 6V6 types will produce about 2X the THD% as a DHT 45 for the same power output.
Maybe your ears like the extra low order distortion products of the 6V6 type tubes?
With high efficiency speakers {Altec or similar) both tubes are good as SE finals.

Agreed, but to advance your premise, a push/pull DHT has the lowest distortion above all... Still prefer the liquidity of an 801 set.

Thanks. I have a zero feedback, DC 45 monos made by Don Garber, with some slightly upgraded Magnequest OPTs). And, yes, the 45 sounds cleaner than the 6V6 and I prefer it.
My speakers are only 95 dB sensitive, but my listening area is small (2+M x 2+M), although the room they sit in is open. I sit about 2M from the speakers. I am happy enough with my system. It's a big improvement from 15 years ago.
