Where will the 12V6s fit?

You go from around .8W power out to around 5W. Both tubes have 12V filaments.
5 watts in pentode maybe, and you are probably going to need some NFB to make it sound good. No way are you going to get 5 watts from a single triode-connected 12V6/6V6.
It doesn't matter. I'm very happy with the 1626. I was just curious about how the 12V6 would sound in comparison.
If the difference between 1 and 5 watts makes or breaks your system, you have bigger problems than how much power this amp has....
That said, the 12V6 and 1626 do sound different.
To further optimize this amp when running running the 12V6, the cathode resistor should be reduced to 150 ohms, when shared between the channels. To do some math for you, if you want to leave the 500 ohm resistor in there, that would be adding a 215 ohm resistor in parallel with the 500 ohm resistor thereby realizing 150 ohms. 220 would work as a standard value. Otherwise, you can replace the 500 ohm resistor with a 150 ohm resistor - a 5 watt, again, would do. The cathode bypass cap is still large enough.
To my and my local friends ears that have heard this comparison, the 1626 sounds more forgiving. This would be the tube for those that have lesser efficient speakers, relatively. It tends to be richer. And, it doesn't seem to fall apart as much when pushed. It s easier to listen to over longer periods, if you will.
On the other hand, the 12V6 is cleaner, more detailed. But, can get a bit out of sorts when pushed. There's that efficient speaker thing again. When used used with highly efficient speakers, this would probably be my choice.
This sort of thing is always hard to describe and everyone brings their own ears to the table; but, hopefully that gives some guidance as to what you might expect.
1626 tube sound great, but I am curious.
If paralleling the existing cathode resistor with a 215 ohm /5W resistor works on both types that will do.
Would it?
My speakers are 95dB-sensitive. No problems so far. The 1626 sounds pretty detailed, as is.
How do i take the case apart? You can email me that if you want.
