I will be driving a pair of Verity Leonores along with a Conrad Johnson met 1 preamp. With this amplifier is it important to roll the 845s, 12ax7s or the 6sn7 tube.
Fwiw Im fairly new to tubes not to mention set 845 amplifiers. I will be using this setup in a seperate setting away from my hometheatre setup. Also any suggestions on where to buy tubesIts been awhile since ive been here posting and any insights and sharing of your related experiences and thoughts will be of great value.
The amplifier I chose to test these waters is a relatively inexpensive Dared VP 845,I had Joe add a bypass on the 4th input to bypass alps potentiometer. As well as add xo auricaps in the 4 coupling areas. If I fall for set sound I may move up the set amplifier scale, Im just easing the financial commitment of the Verity purchase at this juncture.
Open to any comments both good and bad. Oh jbtway I do have Plinius SA 102s amoung others, just wondering if this is a lateral move soundwise?
Thanks to any and all in advance...
Tim...

Dared uses excellent opt iron ! Their amps are entirely underrated ! Enjoy !
I think you will be in for a nice surprise when you get everything hooked up. Your speakers look very SET friendly which is quite often not the case when people do try out their first SET.

Tube rolling is fun and can be beneficial to your enjoyment. I suggest just relax and enjoy this new experience in it's stock form. If it's a keeper, then describe what you want "more of" or "less of" out of the sound. Rolling can help soften the sound or sharpen it up a bit. To give you the best suggestion, we need to know what direction you'd like to try.
Good advice, Ill take it. Sometimes the excitement of aquirring new gear in this hobby create impulsive questions reaching for all the right answers, especially in unfamiliar ground.
Much like the knowledgeable Morricab states below I don't want to make a bad judgement call based off of my lack of experiences with SET amplifiers and tubes. Or by unknowingly choosing a bad product not displaying the best virtues of a given topology.
I have limited experiance rolling tubes in my tuner, Kora Hermes dac and various phono stages to positive results. That being said I still rely heavily on the forum members here for real world experiences, Lord knows ours is a rare hobby. Hence my vague post.
Thanks for slowing me down, Ill relax and enjoy Johnny Hartmans music along with Tom Waits "closing time" Bill Frisell on vinyl... cant wait.
Thanks for your much needed voice of reason.
Best...

My 845 SET monoblocks, designed and built by a friend, have been in my system 12 years and aren't going anywhere. They replaced a pair of Conrad Johnson Premier 12 push-pull amps and simply destroyed them sonically. I couldn't believe it. You can see the rest of my system in Inmate Systems.
Although comparatively low-powered (and the CJs boasted 140 wpc) they sounded way more authoritative AND musical. I don't know the amp you're getting, but hope you're as pleased as I have been. Good luck!
I think your approach makes a good deal of sense. SET is not for everyone. If you do decide to move up, I can highly recommend DeHavilland Electric Amplifier's 845 monos, the ARES 845-G. It's a steal at that price. One nice thing about the 845 tube is that you don't need a highly sensitive loudspeaker, as long as it is a relatively easy electrical load.
On the other hand, starting with an inferior amp (not saying necessarily the Dared) can put you off to a type of amp that has really a lot to deliver.
Many Thanks Frihed89,
This is an exciting time for me with new speakers and set amps...
Terrific site and very interesting read about designers thoughts relating to set amplifiers subject matter, different tubes and topologies. Ive never heard of Dehavilland but theyre a line Ill take a serious look at,monoblocks forthat price, wow. Aesthetically I could wish for more, but as always pictures dont always do justice and sound, as always, is most important!
Thanks again for you taking the time out for my concerns and providing link, very entertaining read,
Best...
