Hello, I recently acquired a Cary 300sei integrated on Agon that came with JJ which to my ears sound thin. I checked bias, previous owner said 50-60 hours on tubes. 6SN7 are RCA red.
I am new to 300B, any advice for swapping? Thanks.

The JJ's may not be fully settled in. The RCA red base may be on the way out. Can you test the tubes or have them tested? The 300 SEI should not sound thin. *I* would not purchase other 300B's just yet.

I agree, the 300SEI should not sound thin, if anything it is almost the opposite! I would try various driver tubes and see how things sound.
Thank you all for the advice, being new to SET I can use the help, most appreciated.
Its been suggested swapping out the 5692 for 6SN7. This makes sense as Cary specs 6SN7 for the 300sei.
I see Sylavania is considered a good sounding 6SN7, I'll try a set of them first.
Question, what's the difference between Sylvania Black Plate 6SN7WGTA & Black Plate 6SN7WGTB?
In my Cayin 300B the reissue TS 6SN7 drives the 300B with much less distortion than any other 6SN7, new chinese or NOS RCA, sylv etc etc . This is with both TJ mesh 300B and EML 300B.
This tells me that soemting iss diffrent with the new TS curves. Mybe it has a positive influence in your amp too?
Higher plate voltage for the B than the A, which was higher than the GT. This is true of all B's

I found the JJs to be fairly innocuous in the realm of inexpensive 300bs, I mean better sounding than most. In the $1000 price range, the EML mesh plates sound good.
In the $1,000 price range, the best I've heard is the ELROG brand. However, it's power out is about 40-50% lower, so you need to take some care with your speakers.

Consider Emission Labs 300B's. I just got some and, not having seen them before, was surprised by how substantial they are - the construction really puts current Russian stuff in the shade. I haven't had enough time with them yet to make a proper sonic assessment, but I should note that my first impression is lower noise (so more detail) and greater extension on top and bottom than Russian stuff, and in terms of the top and bottom, 1998 Westerns. Not your mom's 300B, but may be of interest. As to the Elrog's, other threads at AA make me want to give them a wide berth, at least until there is an established reliability record and a consensus on consumer satisfaction.
Sorry for not responding earlier, got tied up with work. Happy Fathers Day to all you dads.
I'm very fond of stock Shuguang 300B tubes and the Gold Lion brand.

Great amp. I had one for years, and liked the 300b's from Sophia Electric.

The front end tube have a bigger impact. 5692s have a house sound.
how do the Sylvanias compare to the RCA?
the seller was kind enough to include a set of CBS hytron 5692.
