I still have the JEL Simple 45. To me, it is much better than a beginners amp especially with horns. Although I rarely use it now but since it was the first SET amp I built, and for for "posterity" sake, I kept it on display in my listening room. Ready if ever.
Never went to the 91A, instead, I built the JEL 2A3DX, and the Tubelab amps.

That's interesting as the simple 45 was my first scratch build as well. It was the amp that started me down the diy path. We home builders owe a lot to Joseph as he made the transition easier for a lot of us. Nice fellow too; I exchanged emails with him many years ago when I was building the simple 45 and he was very helpful.
The 91A is a notch above any 2A3 amp I have ever built, especially if you use a ef37a for the driver. Bread board one if you get a chance, I think you will like it.
Cool!
