Currently I have 3 different SET's. A Welborne DRD300B and Welborne DRD45, as well as a Tri audio 300B integrated (used for A/V purposes). I'm looking to add to my collection. I tend to favor the 300B sound, but am open to recommendations for amps around $3500 and under (could go a bit over). Not looking for kits as I can't build them. I like changing the amps around from time to time, as it seems to refresh my listening.
Thanks.

I also have Welborne Laurel 300b's, Welborne Moondog 2A3's, Welborne DRD 45's and StarChief 45's through Klipschorns. I auditioned a Don Garber 45 amp for a friend who is a reviewer for an online magazine. Although they are very nice and detailed, I'll stick to my Welbornes.
You might try a George Wright amp. He made both SET and push/pull amps.
Check out this sale http://www.audiocirc...?topic=132626.0
There might be something there you could use for a very, very reasonable price.
I have a pair of Decware 2 watt amps bridged for mono for about 6 watts and they sound great.
You might find a pair of Gordon Rankin Wavelength's in your budget, also.
You must have efficient speakers, try a 2A3 for a change.
Good luck
Might i suggest an amp with the 10y tube. It is different than what you already have. It does nuance and detail to the Nth degree. At 1.5 watts/channel it has little power for R&R but excellent for small scale stuff.
The only commercial amp I've seen is from Sun audio (I think). Some research is in order to find an available product. A custom builder could do it easily.
It has very good output transformers and makes an honest 15 watts (it is parallel SET). Massive construction (nearly 100 lbs!) and true dual mono (two separate power transformers).
Sound is harmonically rich but not overly so as there doesn't seem to be saturation in the bass, which is pretty tight and controlled. Nice 3d imaging and soundstageing with the source and recording are up to it.
You could try the Line Magnetic 518 and 218 both are 845 higher power SET amps. They will refresh the experience.
I would also try the Audio Note Oto SE. It is el84 based and a SEP but I have liked it more than a lot of 300b SETs.
The Line Magnetic offerings look good. I couldn't afford the 518, which I understand you have.
Have you heard the 218 - if so, how would you characterize it's sound. I have been interested in possibly trying an 845 amp sometime.
Thanks.
I have a 218IA and I have 2 friends with 518IA's. Both the 218IA and 518IA are excellent amps. They also give you a wider range of speakers to choose from than the lower power SET's. I believe RGA has the 219IA.

I don't know if the seller still has this. It's the circuit I use, and I'd put it up against any 300b amp. Very good quality parts here and a realistic price for the work.
Looks nice, but both price and need to ship across the Atlantic make me hesitate.
Thanks.
I'm in UK so it's under ebay.uk but the amp is in the USA. The owner will negotiate, I'm sure.
Take a look a Decware reviews. They have SET amps even a 2 watt version. I have 3 of their amps and am hooked. They have to be the best bargain in the industry and the only lifetime warranty I know of.
Keep the DRD300B, sell the DRD45; buy the Fi. It plays both 2A3 and 45 tubes.
Observe, before you think. Think before you open your yap. Act on the basis of experience.
What are you looking for in a 300B amp that your other three DHT amps don't provide?
It's not so much I'm looking for something they lack; I like them very much. But I like to have a variety of amps - I find they all provide a somewhat different insight into the music. Maybe a bit like drinking different wines that you like but each provides a different experience.
Thanks.
Jayd,
Perhaps you could look into a Fi 2A3 stereo amp being sold in the "For Sale" section here ( not my amp ). Don's amps sound excellent and the 2A3 tube might be the change of pace you are looking for while also saving some money.
Thanks for the tip. I'll look into it.
