There is no such thing as deep class A. Either it is class A or perhaps very rich class A/B but that's not really true class A. And SET has to be true class A. There is no alternative. If you turn off the output device(as is done during non class A) in an SET you're turning off the amp.

I think a line can be drawn (somewhere) regarding this. If you look at certain SET's (a lot of 805 amps come to mind), you'll be biased in class A at idle, but the grid bias voltage might only be 10-20 volts. At full power, you're drawing grid current here and there (here and there=non-linear), which is quite a bit different than a 2A3 amp biased at -60V and only drawing just a hair of grid current at clipping.

Do a search on the asylum - over 100 hits.
Hard to have a subject so well discussed
that doesn't exist.
FYI Over 45,000 on a google search.

That's a term for a push/pull amp only that has very high bias but won't stay class A at full power.

Discussed enough - these are the ones I remember.

Class A1: The grid voltage is always more negative than the cathode voltage.Class A2: The grid is driven MORE POSITIVE than the cathode for part or all of the waveform, thereby drawing current.
