Could someone tell me if a 5U4 can be used in this circuit (which calls for a 5V4) if the power TX can handle the 3A? (I'm just not technical enough to figure it out.)
Follow Ups:
5U4 has a much greater voltage drop.
If the amp is built as spec'd in Sound Practices, the PT rectifier winding is rated for 2 amps. If the PT is the Magnequest MR 5500, Mike spec's conservatively. Overdrawing the rated current typically makes the PT run hotter, with the potential downside of damage. What benefits are you looking for that you would consider overdrawing the winding to use the 5UR versus the spec'd rectifier?
Cheers,
Geary

Where is the circuit. BTW, JJ makes a GREAT sounding 5U4-G now, current production !! 3 A. is the Ef current, yes.
