It's not an EML 300B but Thomas Mayer just announced they are starting production. They appear to have standard 300B parameters. I know nothing about them beyond what is on Thomas' site.
With the Takatsukis and now ELROGs, some interesting 300Bs on the market.

Thomas Mayer has a post on his blog about this tube now. It isn't really a true 300B but works in 300B amps. It has a tungsten thoriated filament, not an oxide, so drlowmu's comments below aren't really relevant. He mentioned lower mu and higher Rp.

My comments are totally relevant. A non symmetrical filament is a non symmetrical filament. A tube with a thoriated filament, would be a better tube if it was designed with a symmetrical filament, and an "M" or a 'W" or a "V" structure is not what I am suggesting. Look at EML DHT production and you will see symmetrical filaments, and generous emitting areas also.

Fair enough. I have not had the opportunity to hear a side by side comparison of a system which controlled for only one such physical characteristic.
In general, I tend to be highly skeptical of anyone who claims such black and white dogmatic approach to audio, which itself, at least in this realm is almost wholly subjectively measured.
To each their own. I don't claim such strict standards and I think the Elrog-300B is an interesting development.
FWIW, I have heard many 45, 2A3, 300B and 211 SETs back to back and all of the 2A3 ones were highly veiled, colored and not on par with the rest in my humble opinion. But then also in my experience the amp design dictates more than the final output tube. I'd still rather have a very cleverly designed triode strapped KT88 amp then a mediocre design amp using some uber-DHT output.

The ELROG 211 has a standard old fashioned "M" type filament, which you can see from their photos of on line, of the tube sans plate. The VAIC designed DHT filament, which is symmetrical, quite robust, with a larger cathode emitting area, seems to me to be a far more advanced tube design, intrinsically.
Notice how the EML extends their filament structure above and below the ENTIRE grid-plate interface. That is dramatically good design to my amateur eyes and my own way of looking at a tube.
Jac Music produces and markets the VAIC design today in their Emission Labs line of DHTs.
I wonder if the new ELROG 300B will have the same old-fashioned "M" shaped filament as their 211, or something more innovative ? It should be easy to beat a standard WE 300B. We will see, find out, soon enough. I wish all these tube guys well.

Almost cannot imagine they will be able to bring tears into my eyes as only the WE300B can...
But very curious to find out...

My original audio mentor, Robert W. Fulton ( 1925-1988 ) would never allow me to use a WE300B. He says, in his time, the best audio people knew not to use the tube. He was AMAZED in the 1980s, that members of the public would covet it !!!

At the end of the day its just another tube enabling great of poor results depending on how you use it.
I happen to love Audio Note E (HE) loudspeakers, and with 98dB you need 5-6 watts. I just don't have room or guts for horns, so this is what I have to look at at the output. I tried 2A3's, but power is simply too low.
Results also depends largely on how you drive the 300B. I see a LOT of 300B implementations using wimpy drivers. You really need a VT25 to drive these tubes at their best.
In my setup and on my speakers I get the naturalness of the 2A3, the midrange of the 300B and the pace and soundstage of a 211. I'm happy with that.
As friend and foe will agree upon, the ER-300B is actually no 300B at all. Its just another tube using the oppoints of the original WE 300B.
I'm looking forward to the results I can obtain from these :)

NC,
Good explaination, and I appreciated hearing your thoughts. We may disagree on minor things, but you always have my respect...keep going, have fun !! I am .
