My RCA horns are about 110db so noise can be a issue but after running in the LM and adjusting hum pots the hum is very low in level and not a issue. They inc a different metal tube cage I prefer it over the glass one you pictured. Will use the 210IA on my WE 13A they're near complete

Hi Kloss,
I'm kind of sorry I didn't pull the trigger on the Viva 300b amp you had for sale a while back. If I could ask you a couple of questions.
Which amp do you prefer, the Viva, or the LM?
Generally speaking, do you prefer amps with interstage transformers, or RC coupled?
Why do you go with 300b for big horns? Do you use passive crossovers, or do you just like mile high headroom?
Thank you in advance for your reply.
Jamie
Big speakers and little amps blew my mind!
Do you have any amps that don't hum at all? I'd be surprised, given how sensitive your speakers are and the fact that a 300B amp sounds quite good on an LS3/5A at 83dB, but very easy electrical load. Horns are usually even an easier loud, too.
I'm sure your system will bring out the best in this amp,
Observe, before you think. Think before you open your yap. Act on the basis of experience.
I have quite a few amplifiers all are dead quiet on the horns pretty sure the LM picking up a ground loop hum. Soon it will move to another system running different horns. The hums very low in level really not a issue.
I must say I am envious of the space. If I had the space I would have some big ole horns.
Glad you got the noise tamed - at 8 watts it should be positively BEASTLY power for those horns. The tube cage is clearly a home brew because it just rests on the top. I like my metal cage actually (but I like it off more.
If you scroll down 3/4 you can see my apartment (which is considered pretty large in Hong Kong!!!!!! So even the Audio Note E I am worried about. I have covered the left wall with acoustic foam about halfway up (ran out of foam) and I have a large leather couch and cloth chair to absorb sound - no clap echo.
It's tough to find relatively small speakers with good bass to go very near the walls. The KEF LS-50 and Audio Note AX Two work well but I want the bigger scale sound. The big horns you have would be in my lap. The downside of HK is the space - the upside is the prices tend to be lower (no tax or import duties).
