Jeff built good amplifiers as I owned one. It is unfortunate the amps are discontinued. Perhaps demand is too little for Jeff to continue that amplifier. Perhaps a retired person with free time on their hands should reissue that design if Jeff would agree to certify the reissue amp for a fee. The Korneff amps use more expensive audio iron, thus not likely possible to build near the Bottlehead cost.
I would believe the Bottlehead Stereomouur with a CCS loaded 12AT7 should sound excellent as stated per others, but I have not heard it myself. Don Wright used amps are an option, but will sell quickly as seen on Audiogon.
A JJ 2A3-40 is reported to be better than NOS 2A3s. A search of various vintage 12AT7s for best sonicas should get the Bottlehead amp set up well with the 2A3. Of course the amp is convertible for 45 tubes.
Follow Ups:
I can atest to the fact that the JJ 2A34s on my Fi amp are the one of the best tubes I've heard on that amp, only doubt is that the 45s as I remember may be a little more delicate and easy, but then they do not have the slam or midbass dynamics
The reports I have read are pretty glowing. He has both rebuilt existing Korneff 45s and builds new copies. From the pictures on his site, they look identical on the outside, and almost identical from the inside. However, there is always more than meets the eye to a successful copy, no matter how similar the real thing looks to the copy.
Observe, don't think
i concur with this...I had Min's amps and preamps....excellent!
All I know is that I know nothing
