Hi ALL, Can anyone say for sure what the power rating of the Wright AU30 is? It is guessed that it is a 30 watt amp but i cannot see how in using 300B tubes. any Wright owners feel free to chime in.
Thanks,
Glen

Just saw this thread.
I am listening to an AU-30 as I type. Love the amp.
The manual indicates the following:
"Output Power:
Nominal 30 watts run power; 60 watts music power"
There is nothing in the manual about operating regime.
I can tell you that the amp has enough power to drive a highly inefficient pair of Magnepan MG-10.1s to very loud levels.
...and could be overdriven into AB2 for a claimed 60 watts peak. I never heard any of George's PP amps, but the AU-15 (2A3) was very well regarded sonically. I would guess the AU-30 was similar, except of course more powerful.
"The George Wright AU-30 is a thirty watt, push-pull all triode vacuum tube monoblock power amplifier. It features a pair of 300B output tubes..."A 300b is good for 8-9 watts in Class A.
Two of them would make 16-18 watts in Class A.
The AU30 must be Class A/B to make 30 watts.
Edit; I did some research and the AU-30 is a Class A/B amplifier.

Although, I have never seen two George Wright amps the same, he was either always making positive changes or he had help making some of them,
I do not know.

@Tre, Can you post a link to the info that you found? I came up with virtually nothing so far.
Thanks,

There is one for sale on audiogon in one of the pictures it is written on it push / pull 300B
It's nothing great but I think it's accurate.
This one shows that they are 30watt PP using a pair of 300b's.
Just search using Google for Wright AU 30. It's the first result.
The link doesn't work but the text in the results says it.
This one says they are Class A/B

2 X 300B, EL34, 6J5 and 5Z3.
I've heard the AU30 but with George's gear in his living room so can't comment on the sound.

Great sounding amp seems more dynamic than the rated power. Used an El-34 as a driver, IIRC....(transformer coupled)
