And a counterpart to FenderLover.......
Just finished a 6B4G amp that I am very pleased with. Huge thanks to Gordon who shared the recipe in a previous post.
I went with EF86 - 12AX7 (driven easy) - Fender style 3 pot tone stack - 12AX7 (driven hard) - 6B4G. Main problem seemed to be that the EF86 could easily overdrive the following stages - interesting sound but not really the jazz tones I was looking for! With that reined in, it is a very sweet sounding amp. Interestingly, it seems to respond very well to changes in the guitar tone pot - set the baseline tone on the amp, and then you can vary over quite a wide range at the guitar. I put a triode mode switch in on the EF86 as well, which sounds very nice - quite a bit fatter than the pentode tone.
Against advice, I have built it into a 1x12 combo. Hums a little, but quite acceptable for me. This is an amp for practice at home. I think I could make the neighbours hear it ;)
Cheers - and thanks again Gordon!

I know this isn't an SET. But, the 6V6GT in single-ended mode is a pretty nice amp. Esp with that Weber alnico speaker. The Bronco is a virutal copy of the Fender Vibro-Champ. One of the best "porch weasels" ever made (IMHO).
Ramping up the new cap can (20/20/20/20 and 40/20/20/20 at 475VDC are available at tubesandmore.com ).

Mahalo,
I do it for fun! I go to NAMM every summer and show really cool stuff that I really don't even have time to build.
Guitars mostly Fano's (3), Collings Acoustics and a Schneider Emerald (Silver pickup version of the Esquire).
Thanks
Gordon

Of course you don't have time to build, you're too busy building! It would take me a month to cobble up that chassis.
I will believe corporations are a legal person when Texas executes one!
I know of at least one person that built a 300B SET guitar amp. One suggstion. Built it as a head unit. Esp if you are using the really nice old NOS tubes. Keeps them away from most of the speaker vibes of a combo amp.
I know it's not SET, but a DIY 6L6GA or GB single-ended, cathode biased amp sounds pretty good. A bit more bass and high notes compared to the Champ or VC. Seen one of these driving a 2 x 12 inch JBL 120F cab. Very nice tone.
Lots of guitar amps are single-ended but few are triode. Fender Champ has a single 6V6GT. I have a Gibson that has two 6V6GT in paralell.
Gordon Rankin's are the only ones that I know of that are SET.
Build a SET guitar amp... Gordon at Wavelength does it (IIRC all of his guitar amps are SET). I would love to build some SET guitar amps (as I build a lot of guitar amps)... just never had the time (or someone standing there saying "build me a SET guitar amp...")
