I have not used the amp in question, it might be a great match. I can say, however, that I've used various Fostex drivers in both front and back loaded horns and never found the sound all that great (168 sigma, 166 and 206). Have you had a chance to hear a 206 in a BLH? If not, you might want to see if you can find one to listen to before investing the time, effort or money. As in all things audio, YMMV, so take this with a big grain o' salt. I think the BLH route is a lot of effort to get just a bit more bass out of the little guys. My preference is to use something like a FR Fostex in OB on the top of a traditional ported cab w/15" woofer (like my JBL 2226's).

would you give a few more details about that 2226 in BR with widebander or so called FR on top in OB. I run similar w/JBL 122A in BR & SEAS 5" in OB.well actually free air w/077 for top. I have my 2226's in SR4725 cabs @ the present & could just tri-amp that very cab & use the 1"comp drivers for the top end. please let me in on your discoveries...you can shoot me a e-mail also if wanted,.

A GREAT tube amp or speakers will allways be GREAT & bieng relevant today is irrelevant.
The bass cabinet is 3.6cu ft, with dual ports, front facing. I have them on about 3" high risers. The top is a Fostex FE167e. The cross over is simple 1st order, 7mh coil on the bottom, 80uf PIO for the top (about 200hz IIRC). I do have tweeters on the OB but don't find them too necessary. From time to time I do "clip" them into the circuit using a 1uf cap as crossover. I find the Fostex is okay without. The crossover seems to my ears to belind the 2226 and the Fostex very nicely, no padding is used on either. This seems to work out just fine since the JBL is 97db and the Fostex is 94, but being OB, picking up 3db from the back. The speakers are kind of tight to the front wall because i have limited space for them. Not ideal for the OB part, I guess, but sounds pretty nice to me.

Hi, this is similar but not completely related. I have Paramour I's that I converted to 45s so the output is pretty similar to the SE Experimenter (near 2 watts) and this worked really well with FE207s in a MLTL enclosure. The 206 is widely felt to be a better driver than the FE207 so you should be in good shape. This is pretty music/ room dependent and I lean towards Jazz / acoustic stuff in a not huge room. The system definitely had signs of strain on big loud rock and loud orchestral stuff, but you should bet a couple extra dB from a BLH. The enclosure I finally really liked for my 207s was a 17L ported enclosure w/ sub... Good luck an dhave fun. Bottlehead gear is swell.
I think the 207's (Qt = 0.26) are going to be much better suited to BR or even MLTL enclosures compared to the 206 (Qt= 0.18), which IMHO really needs the BLH. I have used the 207 in a ported box with good results. Gets pretty low, though not much actual bass impact, as you'd expect. Upper end has that typical Fostex nasal sound, BSC would likely help a great deal, but then you're giving up sensitivity.
Put the BSC in at line level, then you don't lose any speaker sensitivity. There's an example at the bottom of the linked page.
The BSC circuit in line between pre and amp preserves the sensitivity of your speaker and is a very useful tool for voicing these. I made mine w/ variable resistance (expensive Pot) to play around and it was very successful. Good luck

At Terry Cain's place, w/RS 1354's, wasn't anything that really caught my attention, though I liked it better than Abbeys. I did like the big BLH, not sure of the plans for that, came out of some Fostex book, IIRC. He had them at VSAC (2003??). Beautiful wood work! Never got to hear the double horns, those might have been even better.
You said you like the double blh's... here's a site where a lot of people have collaborated together to come up with these, never made them, I went to Altec 604's......

& I get the urge to go to lowes and get some osb and mock up a pair....
but I have a ton of other things I could be doing instead.... but they do get me thinking.....

Thanks for the replies. I have a pair of 206E in BLH. They are definately persnikity, however with the right music it can be really cool. I currently am using 40+ year old SE reel to reel amp (Rogers aka AKAI), but I feel I can do better without breaking the bank.
