Did you measure the outlet voltage of your friend's house and your own home? I've found that sometimes too low voltage can cause trannies to get noisy. Maybe it's the excess current draw to compensate for low outlet voltage. Who knows?
Thank you for this suggestion. I will measure mine tonight, and I will be back at my friend's by week's end.
