I'm a particular fan of guitarist Steve Hillage. His Fish Rising LP is outstanding.
Didier Malherbe, Gong's usual sax player, is prominent in the audiophile approved Hadouk Trio records.
...I love their appearance. Wearing a suit and tie is no guarantee of quality anything. I'm also from that era so maybe a bit biased.

I agree about Steve Hillage Fish Rising. Great album. I really like Gong's 'You' album too.
YOU is easily my favorite Gong album.
Way back in the old Musician magazine, some wag of a reviewer said "the Grateful Dead wish that they could jam like these guys."
Now, I like the early Dead just fine. There is an essential difference. While the Dead had roots in Bluegrass, Gong listened to more jazz. Room for everybody, I say.
