Legendary musician and song writer Leon Russell has died at the age of 74. 2016 has been a tough year for entertainers but when you lose someone of the stature of Leon Russell it really hits you hard. R.I.P.

Thanks to Elton John for pulling him out of obscurity a couple years back. He was in ill health and poverty. I saw him back in the 1970's. It was during a period where everyone was playing together at times. That show had Clapton and Delaney and Bonnie as backup. He was a very talented performer and will be missed.

Wow! Too bad. He was a great showman. I liked the stuff he did with Joe Cocker (another great that died a couple of years ago). I only saw Leon Russel once, in 1973, when he played at LSU in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. I was on my way home to Texas after being discharged from the Navy. I stopped in BR to visit a Navy buddy that had gotten out just a few months before I did, and we went to the concert at the university. This was when he was doing his 'spinning piano' thing, and it was a great show. Leon was a great showman, and one the concert started, it was a non stop high energy show until the very end. He will be missed.
...glad I got o see him perform again last year.
A true original.
RIP
Wow,that is a loss. Going to have to go listen to some Leon.

As appropriate as it was then. Got to play this for my kids at school in the morning.
Leon's first solo album is my favorite. Saw him in 1969 and 1970 with Mad Dogs and Englishmen.
Fantastic pianist, performer and musician and a wonderful songwriter.
It was nice to see him more active and acknowledged in the past few years after a long stretch of laying rather low.
He contributed a LOT to the grand American Music Continuum and he ALWAYS looked cool!
RIP.
