I'd be curious to know how much of a ransom Frampton had to pay to get his own property back. Hopefully they didn't rape him.At one point the reporter asks Frampton if posing for the shirtless picture made him feel like he lost his "cred" with his male fans, and Frampton said yes. While the picture may have had something to do with it, it was really the change in musical style where Frampton lost me. I was a fan of his work with Humble Pie, and the switch to the lighter, pop sound of Frampton Comes Alive! was too soft for my tastes back then.
Now that I think of it, not just back then. I'd still much rather listen to Frampton's work on this than anything on "Comes Alive".
Very glad to hear he got his beloved guitar back after so many years. He seems like a really nice guy too. Thanks for posting the story.

selling only 3 million copies.

Because of the way politicians spend our money, I've grown somewhat jaded to the word "million", but you are so right. 3,000,000 is a shiteload of albums.
I liked hearing how Frampton's old pal David Bowie helped him out by having him play lead on a tour too.
Good stuff.
Have the feeling if we took all the AA posters that are professional musicians AND label owners and totaled
their combined sales just since AA launched the figure would be well below three
million - excluding anyone that played. say, in the brass section of "Phantom" or such.Frampton sounded GREAT playing with Bowie - cool cats.

Three million in sales of anything is a success, at least to me. But to a record company who's anticipating probably four times that, apparently not.
and it's just further proof what idiocy that business always has been, is, and will remain.
There was never enough for the record companies. Never.

This is true, although I believe the situation has gotten much worse over the years.
I read something once, that if Frank Zappa were just coming up now, that he'd never get a record contract. Maybe Frank said it himself in an interview. I think during the mid to late 1960s to early 1970s, the record companies were more willing to take a chance on a new artist than they are now.
Just think how much the music world would have been denied if Zappa had never been given an opportunity.
releasing his own material hell or high water and gathering a dedicated band that would follow him into the fray.
Some people have so much music, motivation, stamina and drive to them that pretty much nothing will deter them from pursuing their art.

Looks like I have some homework to do.
Ok, I'm back. Whew, I'm going to have to get back to that article after work. There's a lot there!
Great story. He is a very humble (pie) human being and grateful for all that life has bestowed upon him. Saw the Bowie Glass spider tour in '87 and was able to meet DB before the show and I asked if I could say hello to Peter. DB laughed and said he gets that all the time with these Meet 'n Greets.
Super cool video
Now I must get back to my chores :(

Thanks for the post and link.
For me, it is hard to imagine the whole story...?
