I've spent the last few days trying to locate someone in the DFW metroplex who carries (or can special order) Owens Corning 703 and 705FRK to no avail. I've called everyone in town and been referred to tons of different companies, but apparently no stores in my region keep rigid fiberglass in stock. The closest plant that manufactures it is in Ohio and since I need about 200 square feet, the freight would be cost-prohibitive to say the least. Anyone have any ideas? Substitutes? An online source, maybe? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I got a 5-pack of 2' x 4' panels of 2" 705 from Builders Gypsum in Houston. Your right, no one stocks it, but Builders Gypsum was happy to order it and have it put on their weekly truck. The only issue was if there was going to be room on the truck. They have to take care of their regular customers first. I understand that Builders Gypsum has a Dallas location. If the people there have any questions have them talk to Manuel in Houston at 713-681-2201. I ordered it and picked it up about a week later. My understanding is that 2" is a stock item for Owens Corning and always available. I believe the 5-pack (40 sq. ft.) is the minimum order. Other thicknesses are Made-to-Order with minimum orders in the thousands of square feet (this is industrial stuff). The 5-pack was roughly $100 at list price with tax but without any special charges. Expect to pay roughly $500 for 200 sq. ft.
I think this is all correct but if I am wrong please post a note as to what you find out.

How will you be using it?

I'll be using it to construct a variety of Low Bass, Mid Bass, and Hi/Mid absorbers as per Ethan's design (with the occasional dimensional adaptation for my rooms). I'll be using them to treat my recording studio...a big room, mid-sized iso booth, vocal booth, and control room. Specifically, 9 Low Bass traps, 3 MidBass traps, and 10 Hi/Mid absorbers. I was thinking 2" 705FRK for all of the bass stuff, and then cutting down to 1" of 703 (maybe) for the Hi/Mid absorbers. I don't really want my rooms THAT dead. I'm on a pretty tight budget, but I'm not sure how much cheaper the 1" is than the 2". As a matter of fact, if anybody can offer an opinion on 1" vs. 2", I'd love to hear that as well. Thanks in advance for the help!
