Does anyone here have detailed knowledge of the PS Audio GCPH? I've got mine set to impedance of 47k and have tried the different gain settings on the back. They don't seem to make any difference at all. Could it be something to do with having the impedance set at 47k? I could see maybe having only the lowest gain work with that setting, with the assumption you're using an MM cartridge. If it isn't that, I'm wondering what the deal is.
I'm duplicating my post in the Digital forum, but I didn't know this forum was here until someone in that thread directed me to it.
The gain setting don't do anything? What are you running? A MC or a MM? They certainly should increase the gain regardless of the impedance setting. The only exception to that would be if you're running a MM cartridge with a lot of gain already and you try and increase it beyond where it should go, you may wind up overloading the stage - but in general it should certainly make a difference.
Thanks very much for the reply.I guess I wasn't doing something right...don't know what. It's working. I'm running a Goldring Eroica high-output MC. Its rated output is 2.5mV. Since I replaced my Goldring GL2200 (6.5mV output) I was looking for a way to make up for the lost output. So now I have the coarse setting on the 2nd-highest setting, the fine control knob at the 1:00 position, and my 50-watt tube integrated's volume at 11:00 to get to my usual listening level. All is like I wanted.
Does this seem like it would be running the GCPH at a good optimum level?
