Well here’s a new one, I just bought a PS Audio 4.6 pre amp off of eBay and have absolutely no problems with it, the controls are all smooth and quiet, the caps are in good shape, and it sounds smooth and clean, very quiet in all modes.
So why am I posting (other than to gloat)? Before breaking something I’d like to double check myself about the adjustable phono cartridge loading. It looks like you can just pull out the resisters mounted in the sockets right beside the main filter caps and plug in a replacement of a different value? Is this the case? Additionally, I have some 1 watt 5% resisters lying around, will they be suitable? Thnx in advance for any help you may be able to render.

Nice work! Indeed, the resistors in their small gold sockets are for exactly this purpose, cartridge loading. Be advised that the basic impedance of the phono stage is 100K. So, whatever you put in the sockets is in parallel with the 100K. Therefore, if you want 47K, you need to put in 100K in the sockets, which will equal 50K. When you get into moving coil cartridges where you want to have 100 Ohms or so, then the 100K doesn't really affect it much since it's such a large value,.
I'd be careful with 1 watts since their legs tend to be pretty thick and the gold sockets were designed for 1/4 watt resistors.
Thanks Paul, so I suppose it's a trip to Radio Shack.......
