Hello, I have a Duet, a Power Director 4.7 and a Power Plant 500. My system is: CD transport(classé CDT-1), DAC (Musical Fidelity Trivista 21), valve preamp (Melos MA-333), active filter (BSS minidrive), tube power amps for middle-highs ( Lumley Reference Monobloc 120W, around 300W of consumption)) and a digital power amp for the bass (Yamaha MxD-1). The total power compsumtion of the system is around of 500W.
I have connected the Ps Audio products in this way:
Wall ->Duet ->P500 ->PD4.7
As the P500 cannot produce enough power for the whole system, I plug the tube monoblocs in the filtered power port of the P500.
My questions are:
Can you suggest a better way to configure the whole system? (another can be without the Duet: wall-> PDirector->P500)
I can obtain best results if I change the DUet-> P500+PD4.7 by a
Duet-> Power Plant Premier alone? (with the tube monoblocs plugged in).
Best regards
May be my questions have obvious answer?
May be the questions are not enough clear?
Why nobody gives me an opinion? :(
Sorry, I must have missed this post! You have a very nice system and I'll bet it sounds quite good! I would think a PPP would do a better overall job than this setup simply because the entire system could run on regenerated power - which is key to a great performing system.
What you have takes advantage of the P500 for the critical components, but the amps are left with passive filtering only. This is fine, but could be better if the entire system were handled by the Premier.
Just my two cents worth.
Thanks Paul, really this system sounds quite well, and the Ps Audio gear make a big amelioration on it. I forget to say that my speakers are a Duntech Sovereign.
Do you think that if I change the P500 by the PPP, I should keep the PD4.7 and the Duet, or I can dispense this two units?
In respect to my actual system, what configuration do you think that theoretically is better:
wall -> Duet-> P500-> PD4.7
wall -> PD4.7-> 500
wall -> Duet -> PD4.7 -> P500
Best regards
No. I think if you get the PPP you should sell the others.
In your current config I like this the best:
wall -> Duet-> P500-> PD4.7 That allows you to use the 4.7 for distribution. The PPP has a better unit (the Quintet) built into it for distribution so if you do go to the PPP, it would not be as good with the 4.7.
Hello Paul,
and to be protected against pikes and surges the PPpremier need to be plugged into a Duet?
And finally, the Wall-> Duet-> PPP should improve the results of the PPP alone?
Regards
No, the PPP has the same protection that the Duet does built in. Yes, if you use the Duet before the PPP you will get better results because of its high frequency cleaning ability.
