I have a IPC AM-1026 amp and have finally replaced all the capacitors. The input transformer has two wires coming into the Primary side (marked as P on the transformer). Does it matter how I use the wires for the incoming input from the preamp?
Thanks
Richard

Hi, I had two of these amps (not exactly sure what the model number was)that had 6L6 output tubes and a couple of 6SN7's and a 5U4, I think.
If yours are similar I can tell you that the input transformers have a gain of about 10, so they are likely to be overkill when you use the amps in a regular system. Probably best to remove or bypass them.
By the way, the input transformers from my amps - I still have. They are quite simply the best SUT's I have ever used in my Linn based vinyl set up.

It doesn't matter but here is the thing...You may be best to bypass the input transformer and a 470k grid resistor to ground on the input 6sl7 and then couple the input with a .1uf capacitor...Sometimes the input transformers rolled off the low end and the high end for the optical sound track applications.
Honest amplification is better than excessive 2nd order distortion anytime.
Michael,
Thanks, I have not gotten these amps up and running yet so this will be another modification but it is one I want to do. I am still getting a low level hum. Being a newbie at this and having only constructed amps and preamps from instructions my troubleshooting skills are somewhat limited.
Have you worked on this amp before? I know it is very old but I have seen a number of responses that these are decent sounding amps once the Input Transformer is bypassed.
Your help on this is very much appreciated.
