Sorry, posted broken product links.

Hey, a bit late to this, but, I'm in the same boat. This seems like a real hotbed in new product lines. Sony has a titanium clad recorder that's supposed to be released soon. Check it out on the news threads at minidisk.org. Also have you seen the Oct. issue of Electronic Musician? It reviews the Edirol r1 and 5 others,.. marantz, fostex, sound devices(yum) but the micro track was too late to be included. Another good link ( although very biased) is coresound.com where they are compared to their PDA 24/96 which is nice but $$$. He sells the M-Audio and seems to hint that there will be improvements in firmware and software to come? Also, check out Solid State Sound at solidstatesound.co.uk they specialize in these. I've been looking into these for a while and until just lately, there weren't many choices, but all of the sudden, it seems like everybody is trying to replace the dat/minidisk/nagra iv and some seem ( sound devices ) seem pretty darn close but $$$. For myself, I'm going to wait for a bit( or 24 heh heh) for the smoke to settle. Also the ipod has a linix os that allow high rez recording, still in beta form though but, 30-60 G of the 5generation ipod is tempting. All it needs is a S/PDIF connection .

A friend just got the great seeming Sound Devices 722. In the first recording she did it totally locked up about half-hour in and had to be "re-booted" to get it to function again. She came over and borrowed my hhb portadat for the rest of the gig!

Yeah, that too. Tascam seems to have a pcm flash recorder called the Hd-P2 also. Like I said, everybody seems to be jumping on the bandwagon. A pretty interesting sideline though, Glyph intro'd the Portagig at AES. It's a tiny 5x3x.8" digital wallet that is available in 80 or 100 G in a very cool looking alum. case that can be powered via usb/firewire and weighs 9oz..I don't know the price but it really opens the door for long uninterupted recording times which is one of the plus's with the SD 722.They use Seagate hd's so I wouldn't doubt if it could have it's drive upgraded as they become available.
