I actually am a happy owner/user of the DigiTube box.
I have a (don't laugh) Nady Tube Microphone (the TCM1050) going through the DigiTube pre-amp. I used the S/PDIF out going into an M-Audio PCI board (the 4-10, which is similar to the 1010LT). Recently I bought the Rockit RP8 monitors and compared this signal chain to the following: coming out unbalanced from the DigiTube going into the M-Audio analog input and using the M-Audio ADC to convert the audio to digital. My opinion is that this gives a better defined high-end than the ADC on the DigiTube.
I was comparing both chains at 48kHz sampling rate. Since the M-Audio goes up to 96kHz and the DigiTube only goes up to 48kHz I think that might explain the difference already. So to say the DigiTube has a bad ADC is too far fetched, but to say it is a bit outdated is probably a correct statement. Go with the Firepod or something like that: it has good (newer) ADC's and a decent quality pre-amp (If I remember correctly it's better than the DigiTube if you compare distortion and noise numbers).
