we booked a gig and now the guy tells me power will be provided by a gas powered 5kw generator. (probably louder than the band)
we'll be using a small mixer,a pr of powered spkrs on sticks,1 monitor amp,eq.and digital reverb. we will also be using an old ampeg b/15 (tubes) for the bass. the guitar player uses some digital devices that require power.
will that be enough juice for us ? will the generator power screw up the digital stuff ?
thanks in advance.......

Follow Ups:
he said it will be grounded correctly. also,no lights involved + we will check polarity. thanks guys

Blimp, that means house it in a sound proof baffle or cannister like a trailer, as long as it evacuates the exhaust and has ample fresh air intake. This is done on location movie sets. Yes, 5kw should be enough unless you have grossly inefficient loudspeakers. Ray Hughes

Yes to both questions as long as theres not a lighting system tied in with it. If you can see if they can get what they call an entertainment generator, there voltage and frequency are more stable than some industrial generator which is the most common and used for construction. There voltage and frequency can vary widely depending on the load.Make sure you get grounding rods with the generator also, and that they ground the generator who evers setting it up.
For the digital stuff put power conditioners on the equipment.
You might want to call the power company also to see if they'll run you a drop box from a power pole down if theres one around. We've done this in the past and the voltage was cleaner and the frequency was a lot more stable than from a generator.
Also before you plug anything in make sure the voltage and polarity of the AC is correct. Check it with a meter and one of those rat-shack polarity checkers first.
See if it has a crystal sync unit on it.............and/or follow the above advice.
Honda EU series generators use an inverter and have super clean power, BTW. I use one and they are great.
