I just bought the deq2496 to see what I can expect from a digital eq
as far as room modes/correction. However I have a question regaring
the digital input and output. My dvd player outputs digital spdif as
RCA which is now feeding my surround processor. I use the analoge outs
of the player to the preamp for music. I know you can set the digout
of DEQ to be the same as digital
input but the question is if it is a passthrough or is it processed in
any way, since if fed the dvd
signal(multi-ch) it might not recognize it.
The second question is what connectors do I need to make a
connectiontion from rca to balanced digital in for the best results.
I am capable of making my own cables so a DIY route is fine.Thank you in advance for any help.
Follow Ups:
I would get another player exclusively for music and run the Behringer through that. You need a CD or DVD player that has optical outputs. In this scenario you will not be using it's DAC so only the transport quality matters (you don't need to spend a bundle of money). This is the best way to hook it up: Transport -> Glass Toslink -> DEQ 2496 -> XLR-RCA Adapter + Interconnect -> Preamp
This method will keep you in the digital domain and using the Behringer's modern DAC's.
You can buy the Neutrik XLR-RCA adapters inexpensively from Markertek (link below). Alternatively, some companies like Hosa make XLR - RCA cables if you want to skip the adapter.

Thank you for the advice. I had considered that route. My DVD player had both optical and digital outs, but the optical was disabled when it was moded by Ric at tweakaudio. I can reconnect that way and use all digital path. I do agree that all digital path is better but I will not be able to use it with SACD. On the other hand I don't have that many SACDs!I give it a try!
you can use an XLR adaptor like this to connect to the DEQ2496
You will only get the full advantage of the DEQ2496 by using it with the ECM8000 Behringer mike and RTA/pink noise function
Very worthwhile audio toy IME and a steal at the price
Thank you. I have the ECM8000 mic.
