I agree on the Studio Projects recommendation (of course, I'm biased because I sell them:-). I don't think you can beat them in the price range, though. Take a look at these reviews:

For quick reference, the B1 is in the under $100 range (much preferable to those you're looking at) the C1 in under $200, and you might look at a nice low-end tube the TB1 for about $300. send me an email if interested in special pricing (hacteraudio at earthlink dot net).
