Hello All:I am setting up a project studio in my home and need recomendations for a small group of inexpensive condensor mics.
What I am considering so far:
Rode NT1-A for primary vocals and acoustic guitar. Also in this price range are the Audio-Technica AT3035, AKG Perception 200, and the MXL 960 (Tube) or MXL 992.
Behringer B-1 for secondary vocals, instrument amps and acoustic instruments. Also in this range is the Audio-Technica AT2020, M-Audio Nova and the MXL V63M.
Pair of MXL 990 and/or 993 for general use vocal to drums. Not much else in this price range except SM-57s which I already have a few of for stage use.
I would love to hear from anybody/everybody who has experience with any of these mics!
Thank you!
George :-)

Follow Ups:
I purchased AKG perception 200. The only difference with akg perception 100 is that, 200 has attenutation and high pass filters also shockmount and sturdy carrying case included. Anything else is the same. so if u already have a shockmount and a mic carrying case u dont need to purchase 200. Of course u need a good preamp with a lowcut filter and sensitivity level control...I got it but i didnt really use it yet. I'll use it in 2 weeks. But i tried it with a focusrite trakmaster preamp connected to a home stereo. The sound was good enough.

I agree on the Studio Projects recommendation (of course, I'm biased because I sell them:-). I don't think you can beat them in the price range, though. Take a look at these reviews:http://mixonline.com/products/review/audio_studio_projects_series/

http://www.digitalprosound.com/2001/03_mar/reviews/studio-projects.htmFor quick reference, the B1 is in the under $100 range (much preferable to those you're looking at) the C1 in under $200, and you might look at a nice low-end tube the TB1 for about $300. send me an email if interested in special pricing (hacteraudio at earthlink dot net). They're sold all over the net as well.- ss
The mics you mentioned all have issues like noise, big peaks, hissiness, or inability to take spl, or off axis coloration. Spring for a few bucks more to get a much better Mic. the Studio Projects c1 is great for the money at 200, and the Cascade VX20 can be had for about the same. If you could manage it, try to get a used Blue Baby Bottle on Ebay - they can be had under 400 and they smoke a lot of very classy mics. Also, every studio should have an SM57 or 2.I stay away from the cheap Rode Mics - the ones I've heard were so bright they hurt. (I heard a rumor they fix that in the newer mid line mics like the K2). If you live near New York or Go there try going to the B&H Photo audition room where you can hear dozens of mics from cheap to very expensive under excellent conditions.
