Have had this recorder on order at Sweetwater.com since Nov. 2004.First announced ship date was 12-05-04. Since then, it has been delayed to 12-11-04, 12-22-04, 1-07-05, 1-11-05, 1-22-05, 02-05-05, 2-11-05, 2-22-05, 3-05-05, 3-15-05, and now they're saying April of 05. (I know, a long list. But that's kind of ridiculous for shipping delays)
Same story at most pro audio places I talk to; most interestingly though, recently, a shop that claimed "Ships in 24 hours" for the product, told me that it *may not be released at all* due to "Sony giving up on DSD". I don't put much stock in this answer since reputable dealers (Sweetwater and Musicians' Friend) say it will still ship. (Sweetwater says its a 'parts procurement problem')
After being on hold with Tascam for an hour to their (Apparently 8-line max) support line, I could get no answer from them except that "the product is not currently available".
Does ANYONE have any information on this device? What may be causing it to be delayed so long?

Follow Ups:
I live in Tokyo and speak Japanese. I called Tascam recently to find out when it would be released in Japan. They were very guarded, but said that they expected it to be some time in March.FWIW, I was also curious to find out if DVD+R media can be used for live recordings or archiving where you don't need the editing facilities. Tascam confirmed that this is OK.
... I'm hearing mid-March to early April here, and the US usually lags a bit behind, of course.
It was not due for US distribution until Feb '05. They show them on the www.musiciansfriend.com site for $1299.00 . Cancel your Sweetwater order and call them and see if they really hav them. JA of Stereophile has a review sample coming to him and he said he will report on it. It looks like a potentially great product, except for some flaws on discs it creates than cannot be played on other players. I'm waiting for JA's review before I jump in.
I'd like to hear if someone actually ends up with a prototype unit. It certainly hasn't shipped to anyone yet. (So no, no reviewers even have it, according to the many, many people I've talked to.)Just hoping this doesn't turn out to be vaporware. It could be a 'very good thing', the hardware specs really do look very good.

.... still I think not a good sign.
