Hi:I was wondering if people think it is possible to hear reasonably full range, accurate sound if seated just 3 feet from your monitors? Are there any speakers which excel at this? What typical eq adjustments must be made? Can the music sound the same from 3' as it will from 'normal' distances?
Follow Ups:
Tannoy concentrics, or any coax, will do it.

When a company designs a 2-way 'nearfield' monitor, like a Dynaudio BM6A, what is the minimum distance they expect the engineer to sit from the front baffle of the monitor?I.e., what minimum distance is required before the sound presents itself as a coherent whole?
On average nearfields are designed to be listened to at distances of roughly one to two meters. If you must go closer than that then coincident sources are really the only way to get proper integration. Also keep in mind that in a studio setting very seldom is mixing done with the nearfields exclusively.
