My main AD/DA converter is the PSX-100. Excellent! Right up there with Lavry. It was one of the first converters that re-clocked the stream before DA.If you're looking at the Benchmark DAC-1, it also re-clocks before the DA. This negates the jitter in the data stream. I've been wanting one to streamline my DAW monitoring setup.

The Apogee Mini-Dac is an excellent choice for a hard drive Juke Box using the USB input. The sound is detailed, accurate, musical, involving, and natural. I use it with a G4 laptop and it competes with CD players I've had in my system that cost thousands of dollars. In fact, I prefer it to those players. Apogee got it right with the Mini-Dac. I also own Meitner gear which I use in my main system, so that's my reference, but if I were on a budget and had to use my Apogee Mini-Dac system, I could still be happy -- and I wouldn't say that about a lot of other digital gear that has been through my rack.

So, can anyone tell me if Apogee gear is better than Benchmark as a whole?
Difficult question I know but it sure would be nice to find a path to trample.
