Your friend is probably sick of the sound of his converters or excessive plug-in use. Pro Tools and other software platforms don't have a unique "sound." Digital summing math is so fundamental and basic that it would take a major programming screw up to mess things up to the point that they sound drastically different. There are different approaches such as floating point/fixed point, and both have their merits, but they simply aren't so different be part of a "new sound."If you don't like the current sound, then don't tempo-align, limit, and plug-in your tracks to death. The software isn't the problem.
