When covering an event yesterday in a school where I was just supposed to patch into the house system, I found myself having to replace some rather noisey old TOA wireless mics with wired handhelds of my own. They asked me which ones to buy for replacements. The problem is, I don't know. I normally don't use wireless. My experience with wireless SM58's is that they eat 9 volts for breakfast and pick up interference. Does anyone know a quiet, reliable, and virtually non-destructable wirless mic that a school might be willing to purchase? Please keep in mind that school staff will use them. They must be "user friendly."
Thanks!! I'll even send them a link to a catalog or something..they must get new mics!

Not cheap, but an industry standard (at least in the film/tv world) and will last FOREVER.

Check the new Shure SLX series. The lavs have metal cases and take 2x aa bats. Literature claims that frequencies are allocated so that 20 units can be used at the same time. Also it is easy to change freqs via infrared link should the need arise. I have always been satisfied w/ all levels of Shure rf products.
