Hi,
I'm in the process of saving for a cheapish (£250) set of (POWERED)monitors: behringer truth B2031, OR Alesis Monitor One Active Mk2 (although my mate bought a pair of the latter and the amp went within a week, so im a bit weay of getting those... suggestions on the better...but thats not my problem, my real problem is:
i want to use the powered monitors with my:
* dvd player
* Cd seperate
* TV
* computer (also to be used as a recording base eventually)and i was wondering if i could use a seperate hifi preamplifier to plug everything into, then the output of that to the hifi... also, if i were to do this, what connection would i need?
i dont have a preamplifier/amplifier at the moment, so i dont know what connections they have on the back...
also would the impedance be right?any other problems i would run into?
Thanks in advance: Ste

I am using some Alesis M1 Actives with an older Parasound preamp/tuner. No problems or complaints so far - I bought some rca to 1/4" phone jack adapters at Radio Shack to make the connection.I'm not sure I have completely understood your question. Are you trying to output to both the active monitors and to a separate power amp? If so, you would need a preamp with multiple outputs (my Parasound has two). You could even run the active monitors off of a tape output, as long as you don't mind adjusting the volume at the monitor.

ahhh, thats the one...i was just confused whether i could actually use a preamp with the monitors, but as long as its RCA to phono i'll pretty much be fine...
no problems with impedance?
oh, and as for running a power amp aswell, nah i didnt mean that at all, it was just i was wondering if i could run a preamp from a hifi seperate with powered monitors!
