I recently delivered 4 speakers with very detailed Audax tweeters and Eminence Alpha 10's crossed at 3100 to a client. He lovingly placed them on free-swinging shelves in the 4 corners of the space which besides being exactly 30X30 has a vaulted ceiling. The building has a Gambrel roof so even the vault is perfectly symmetrical. Yikes!
He called me the next day and said he was disappointed in the lack of clarity.
I told him to bring the speakers down from their Go-Go DAncer perches to the floor to hear how they CAN sound and then find a compromise position somehere for the shelves but he isn't having it.
Any suggestions?

I went to the doctor. I said 'Doc, my arm hurts when I do that.' He said: "Don't do that!"If he had enough trust in you to build him the speakers he should also pay attention when you tell him where to put them. But if your client won't accept your advice on proper placement just cash the check and walk away. Life's too short to waste time suffering fools.
I am curious as to the choice of Alpha 10s, though. With those drivers there can't be much happening in the bass department.

Alpha 10: 97dB, relatively smooth to over 3500Hz, if they were on the floor in room down 3dB about 45 Hz, $40 bucks.
The JBL's have less bass, the Peerless aren't efficient, the Beta only goes low with the co-ax for $80 (what's up with that?) and the Delta-lite and Kappas are all $100.
Any suggestions?

Yes,the A10s are efficient and strong to the high end, and in fact will go down to 30 Hz quite nicely, but they require a 10 cu. ft box to do so. A smaller box gives a nasty low end bump; Alpha 10s are best suited for what they were designed to do, very small sealed or open back boxes on electric guitar from 80 Hz on up.The Beta 10 is a lot better choice for the most part. Tuned to 50 Hz in a 3.3 cu.ft box they have an F3 at 45 Hz, which is plenty low enough for most pro-sound applications. From the same size box the Alpha ten just can't get a smooth response curve.
