I like it dynamic, large impact, think of an excellent sounding dance club. Many high efficiency speakers mean low distortion for effortless sound at just about any level.I run
2 ev hp940s with ev dh1a compression drivers
4 jbl m151-8s each in own extra sand filled walls enclosure
4 eminance 18s, 6th order alignment in push pull slot loaded
dvd player to active crossover (used as volume control) to
Sumo model 9 to tweets
Ab international 600a to mids
Ab international 900a or 600 or altec 9440a to 18s.
Follow Ups:
Be sure to get yourself a hearing test often, or you may lose a lot of threshold perception, and not know it. Long term exposure to DB levels like this are contraindicated.

Funny, I work for an high-end audiophile company and the owner and head engineer worked on a pro gear project with me. A buddy of his has worked at EV for 20 some years and picked out the best that EV ever made, put together with a digital EQ from EV and HOLY S**T, it sounds outstanding. I have heard 5K, 10K, 20K "audiophile" loudspeakers that were a joke compared to these. So, my recommendations would be the older EV stuff (HR 90s/9040s) or older Altec (Voice of the Theater). This stuff is beyond most gear of today. I am actually starting another project this Fall... Oh, yeah, beware the power, I can hit 120dB in my living room...This is my setup:

Eh? what's that you say, what time is it? you'll have to speak up, so I can hear you!

if the uninformed insist on using things for purposes they weren't intended for so be it. I'm sure that there are those who are also not content with driving a mere Chevy Yukon and instead use a Caterpillar D9 to drive back and forth to the grocery store.

4 eminance 18s, 6th order alignment in push pull slot loaded...sounds like a serious setup. How big is your room?

I love the horns, I use the cd horn re-eq from the active crossover for much flatter highs out closer to 20k.I like the cd horns because the tweeter level is just as flat far field (back of room) as near field. I am not used to hearing highs this clean in the back of the room. I love the tweets but do not have much experience comparing them to others. They remind me of the clarity and speed of a electrostat panel but can play louder then I need them to without straining the amplifier. Compression drivers need frequency compensation, and steep crossovers. Guys run 15s crossed at 500hz to tweets at 6db octave. That's a fast way to burn them and too much low frequencies modulating highs.
My room is 24 long by 13.5 wide by 8 high, Brick enclosed on 3 walls on a slab basement and 10" of foam stopping side reflections but only 2" on back wall.
Yes ab international are pro amps (they have a web site). The 900a's are thx certified and have switching rails. The 600a and 900a look like the leach schematics popular and sound good for the money. They aren't crown, crest, qsc or peavy, but the design is good.
How loud ???? Well tweets are 110db with 1 watt, they have 30 watts, mids are 108db 1 watt 4ohm, they have 300 watts, and subs are 2 boxes of a pair of 18s for a (102db) load of 4ohms per box, they have 400 watts rms. So loud and clean, I've never measured how loud as if I want it loud I have to leave the room or my ears ring especially strong at night when my head hits the pillow.
