I am looking to upgrade my Carver CT-27v preamp tuner to a DTS, Dolby Digital preamp (no tuner required anymore with digital audio out there). Obviously, I have been out of the market for a while and am looking for your suggestions for units priced around or under $800 out of pocket, not retail.
In my earlier years quality pieces from Proton, Rotel, Carver, Adcom, could be had easily at these prices.
Associated equipment:
Yamaha CDC-635 CD changer
Sony SLV-700HF VCR
Sony DVP-NS300 DVD
Carver TFM-35 Front Channel amp to Boston Accoustics T930
Carver TFM-6CB Bridged center amp to Boston Accoustics 525V
Onkyo TX-28 My first receiver now only used to power the surround channels
Yamaha Self Powered Sub YST-SW120Your suggestions?

For $800, I'd look for a used ARC (Audio Research) preamp.
