I need a capstan motor for my b-16d - does anyone have a spare or a beat machine they'll sell me? I think the motor is the problem but if anyone can suggest something else that would make the capstan motor not turn it would be a big help.
Thanks

If this is a reel to reel unit, you can look to see if my advice below will fit. If it is a cassette four track, it will fit.Take the back off of the unit.
#1) You will see four wires soldered to that motor labeled A + - B
#2) Take a volt meter and check the + to the - It should be 12V or there about.
#3) Hit fast forward. Check A to - (could be B though) Hit rewind and check the other to - A & B are your directions.#4) If all that checks out, you have isolated the motor as the problem.
Now, these motors are kind of neat. They have a small PWB inside them with a regulator and a few other components. You can carefully take the motor apart and check for cracked solder joints, blown components, or broken traces. In the case of a blown component...find another motor. You can usually get a replacement from http://www.mcmelectronics.com
thanks!
