Oh my, I wonder what service the 700meg band is allocated to...
that sucks.
Well, I'm doing the 3-panel monitors because thay will be close
to the front row seating, and thay need to cover a wide area.
Are you talking about reverb's, as far as a "mess"?. The two
side panels are angled 20 deg. from the front panel, and I will
be using three 6" full range drivers. Similar to using say, a
Bose 802.
Yes, low budget here, only 50 members!.
Follow Ups:
What kind of church is this, what format of worship service?
How large is your stage?
How many people will you be covering on stage and at what SPL?
Do you have a band or acoustic piano?
How many mics will you have open simultaneously?
Where are your mains in relation to these monitors?
Have you thought about side-fills?
You might be able to make something that small usable, if you don't have large expectations like full range music and vocal reinforcement. If it is for the pastor only, you might make something like that work.
I would not consider the Bose to be applicable and satisfactory in any application BTW. You will need something hi-q to keep the sound off of the walls, etc. You need something that will cut through the omnidirectional mud coming from your mains. You will need something that will keep up with the SPL your mains are pushing.
A. non-denominational
B. no stage, maybe 6 singers 8' from front row seating., left side only.
C. maybe 6 singers, and one mic'd acoustic guitar (vocals), one elec. keyboard player (no vocals). low SPL's.
D. No band, drums, etc., no acoustic piano.
E. 4 mics now in use + podium mic. (soon to be wireless lavalier!).
F. The existing FOH mon's. are rat shack 12" 2-way's, behind the
singers, sitting on a wall 8' high. UGH!.
G. What I'm making to be flown will replace these. The ceiling is
10' high, so the mon.'s will end up about 8', tilted down.
I'd rather not do side fills, the room isn't that large. We only need
good vocal reproduction mainly, from the vocal mics., the keyboard/guitar use their own amps (Roland 15" 2-way).
Oh..the Samson Stage 5 wireless system looks very good, and only $99.
The Nady could be good too for the same price, but the Samson has some
real positive reviews on it. We don't need spendy high-end pro gear, really.
Samson and Nady will disappoint you. Think about this. If you can buy them for $99, and the dealer is making 10%, and the distributor is making 10%, and the factory is making 10%, you really aren't buying much in electronics are you? If you are going to be looking at those systems, you will have audio quality issues, have poor off-axis rejection, which means tone and feedback issues. All of this is moot considering your VHF stuff will not work properly or legally after Feb 2009.If you do a floor wedge in front of the performers, that will work out better than a flown monitor. Your ceiling is too low. You will be blowing right into the microphones. Not to mention the fact that in church, things change. Your singers could increase. You could have a band or acoustic piano. They might want to change the set and play center or stage left. So you need to think about this before you put them in a performance box.
Any monitor behind the performers is a bad idea. Get that Radio Shack thing in front of them, blowing into the dead side of the mics (assuming that they are cardiod), and you will improve your sound.

No, the flown monitors will not be for the musicians, just the
audience, and will be aimed away from the mics, towards the
audience. I have a hard time explaining this without a drawing.
I guess the next level up on the wireless, is the AT brand.
Sweetwater say's that the VHF band will be more immune to
interference than UHF in the future. I don't care about the licence
crap, that's their problem.
Well, you better care about the license. You are breaking the law. Will the driver's of your church van or bus drive without a license? How good is that for a church? You can't preach what God says, to "obey the laws of the land", live a subject, obedient life, and the give the government the finger.
Now I understand. You are making some mains for FOH (Front of House). Those are not monitors. Monitors are support for the stage. This is why mixing consoles are labeled "mains" and "mons". You may not have a mixing console though.
A good book for you to check out since you are obviously new and have no substantial budget is the Yamaha Sound Reinforcement Handbook. There is one for worship situations too. They have a DVD which is great for training people with no experience at all. I used to give that to people wanting to help with sound at church. It was a great prequalifier. People would gove it back and say that they had no idea that we actually had to know something about it, or they were hungry for more.
Good tip, thanks. Funny how the CB band is untouchable, with all the
hi power being used, yet they want to licence milliwatt powered
transceivers. What next?....baby monitors?. RF remote controls?.
I know, I've mixed up some terms here, thus confusing. I have no
plans now to install stage monitors, just the FOH flown units (2).
Thanks again..
