By Cannons, you mean XLRs? Speakons are the best way to go. You get more contact surface area. Manufacturers used to use 4 pin XLRs, but the contact area was too small, and did not allow for large awg wire. TSs had the same problem. That is a good reason why SpeakOns have been so accepted. Plus they are locking, water proof, etc.
You won't find new "Cannons". Switchcraft, Neutrik and other make the XLRs. They are in the low voltage connector range.

Thanks for the response. I've spent a few hours on this but it turns out that the series I need was hogged out by Amphenol and is now their EP and AP series, the AP being thermoplastic. These are quite a bit bigger than the XLRs (which I'd never consider for speaker loads) and take 12 AWG wire. Some of these are actually plug-in compatible with speakons, btw. My application is inside "set and forget" and the look is important. I'm just old fashioned and can't warm to speakon blue..... Here's a link in case someone else stumbles upon this:

If you want a set and forget it then why not use barrier strips?
…Neutriks STX series of SpeakOns?
All metal housing in either nickel or black-chrome plated. They are also weatherproof and take up to 50 amps of ac current.
