Here ya go
Stuart:
Hey thanks. I usually use Rane Note 110, but I like the way they differentiate between pseudo-balanced, cross-coupled, and transformer balanced methods. Rane note 110 does this too, but this seems more clear for some reason. (Rane combines pseudo-balanced and cross coupled and uses notes to differentiate where Van den Hul just shows there separate methods.
I found the problem b.t.w. I was using a manual for a Q2031B, and the B uses TRS balanced. On the Q2031 (no Q) the 1/4" jacks are actually unbalanced! Nice!
Oh well. Just a bit more soldering to do now! :D
Cheers,

Perhaps you don't realize it, but when a manufacturer puts TRS jacks on a product, then it's a safe assumption that they planned for having people plug in unbalanced 1/4" plugs. Very likely, the TRS jack is actually an unbalanced input with the signal on the tip, and the ring "impedance balanced" through a resistor to ground.
Having the correct pin out with the correct model number/diagram is definitely a must aint it?
:)
I just ended up using the original cables I was using before.
RCA -> XLR in and XLR -> RCA out.
Turns out I had the input and output gain switches reversed causing the signal to be just too low.
I gotta start getting more sleep. :o)
As far as slammin 1/4" unbalanced into 1/4" TRS??? I guess. Nowadays I try to get manuals from the internet and know "for sure". I thought that sometimes amps had 1/4" unbalanced and XLR balanced... maybe I'm wrong here. Time to pull out some old manuals for some of my old prosound gear...
Normally I run either unbalanced / RCA all the way, or XLR balanced all the way. I only mix when I'm experimenting with stuff and mixing prosound and consumer gear.
Cheers,
Presto
