Hey JANDG....look at the Behringer DCX2496. It's not badly priced and offers very good sound out of the box. You can also add on a SRC2496 on the input to push the envelope a little. Yes, you might look around for alternates to the BBE DS26 or DS24.
The DS26/24 specs are quite good, but the bandwidth is a little anemic for pro work = 48k instead of 96k or better from other makers.
