In Reply to: (attn Chris, others) I was listening to some monitors today posted by IBSmiester on July 7, 2006 at 14:40:54:
I'm not sure if they were set up differently, but they sounded better this time. The bass was nice and tight. I think the Tannoys have a midbass bloom to them which makes them sound nice and big, but they seemed veiled compared to the ultra transparent BM5As. Also, the setup room wise wasn't that great for the BM5As with them up against a wall and surrounded by other monitors. After I get my cables I plan on purchasing them and checking them out in my room. The great thing about local music stores is that I can return them within 30 days for my money back if I don't like them.

Follow Ups:
As you noticed, the speakers are often set up terribly. They also generally use MP3's being played on a computer as the source, and there are also usually very bad ground loop and other noise problems from looping all the speakers through their switch box.The Mackie 824's play a bit lower than the Dynaudio's and you might find them to your liking. The tough part is deciding which one to take home to audition. In an ideal situation you could take two or three pairs home and bring back the ones that you didn't want.
They had a CD player and I was using my own CDs. There was a bad ground loop as well, but it didn't get in the way.Regarding the Mackie HR824s, they are around $500 CDN more than the Dynaudios, Tannoys and Mackie HR624s, and therefore a bit out of my price range. I heard them yesterday in the background, seemed alright, but the Mackie tweeters don't come anywhere close to the ones in the Dynaudios.
