I'm a high school video production teacher. We use final cut pro and would like to plug a proper mic into the mac for voice over work. I'm assuming it'll sound a lot better than adapting an xlr into the mac's mini input if we have a pre/mixer. Do any of thse sub $300 have firewire outs? We just need a couple of channels max..and don't care about any other out but the firewire/usb and maybe a headphone jack.
Follow Ups:
Presonus (at www.presonus.com) or M-Audio (at www.m-audio.com). They both make some nice inexpensive preamps.

The Edirol UA-5 is about $300 and has a USB interface, but no firewire. While the one I used briefly had a modified analog section, the stock unit should work fine for you. Edirol does make similar units with firewire capability, but they're more expensive.Another 2-channel product that's about the same price, but with firewire, is the PreSonus Firebox. I have no experience with it, though.
