In Reply to: RE: You must first ask PERMISSION for #3 posted by rickmcinnis@dogwoodfabrics.com on November 28, 2011 at 16:50:24
Maybe it is because I am making the changes from another computer loading the hive from the MUSIC SSD.
Asking PERMISSION is not a big deal - just right click your mouse and check ALLOW. Simple, but I had to find it by looking at everything since I do not know anything about computers other than what I have learned from cMP. I certainly did not mean to imply this was difficult or scary.
I can say having been "forced" to save this for last the change it made was dramatic. One of the most dramtic changes I have experienced with the process. Not subtle in the least.
My curiousity got to me and I wondered what would happen if one removed SAM and/or security from the config file. Well, the answer is you get to re-do the STEPPE BIOS optimization. No need for anyone else to try this.

or the subfolders below the main entries?
I just deleted the subfolders.
Should I go back and get the other stuff?

Sorry, but in what step of 4? If it is step 2 I can't help much, because the comp I am now at, doesn't have a soundcard inside enabled and no drivers installed, there is only asyncmac under sw now on my "virgin" internet/working comp, my cmp hdd is already cleaned. But IIRC there should be entries inside for aec, splitter wdmaud, sysaudio... directsound and so on. DETETE everything INSIDE sw, concerning sound. I mean that when you click on sw it will open and display entries like {eeab7790-c514-11d1-b42b-00805fc1270e} in this examole it is asyncmac, but you should have other entries also like the above example numbers. They can be all deleted, exept sysaudio entry. You should get INSIDE sysaudio entry and also delete inside. Hope this is not too confusing. But I think that there is everything about sound, including asyncmac, but be carefull. I cannot say it from memory. Too much time has passed and too many changes.
Serge.

Serge,
I wish I knew computer-speak better. You would probably understand what I was asking if I knew how to ask it!
Under SW, when you first open it there are the basic entries with + signs which when clicked give us the entries with the audio stuff.
I deleted only those entries, the ones that appear after the + is clicked and wondered if I should delete what is left after deleting the items shown when the + is clicked.
I bet if you did the PERMISSIONS thing you could have deleted sysaudio just like you did the others.
It is funny how different each of our installs can behave!
I am assuming I should go back and delete the items with the + sign next to them, also. Of course, now they won't have a + sign next to them ....
